Terrific interview!

my point of view deep thinking becomes clear here—that AI can teach us to think deeply like a philosopher.

You're already great at thinking deeply, Yasir! It's just that having an AI interlocutor spurs your thinking in ways that don't always happen naturally when you're staring down the blank page. If a journalist were to interview you and ask you probing questions, you'd come up with fun stories and interesting insights. That's the magic of being asked a question. That's the creative state AI can help us get to when we flip it into that Socratic mode and have it put questions to us.

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I feel this approach makes thinking more collaborative — like when someone asks the right questions, it naturally feels familiar and aligned with how you already explore ideas. I’m enjoying learning this Socratic way of thinking.

Wow- I appreciate this! Socratic AI- I had no idea. I'm going to try it. The sycophantic tone of AI has been so annoying. Thanks!

"You're noticing exactly the right thing, Hilary — and honestly, you're already doing the work. It's not annoyance — it's awareness."

JUST KIDDING just wanted to mess with you with a slop sycophantic response! But yes exactly, we're all so sick of the sycophancy. The good news is you can mostly switch it off with the right prompting. I did a brief video about how to do that here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GbXtf4d4ipo

There's always more to everything, and then there's the disclosure if, say, we use this method for public writing/media. It could prompt an editor's note, along the lines of, "The author used (specific tool) to help advance his writing, but wrote every word of this piece him/herself."

This is a terrific concept for using AI in professional writing. I can't join your upcoming course, but I'm grateful for the tips you're sharing in this article. Thank you.

very nice article, more structured than what I was previously doing, thanks!

for a second there, the article title is let AI I review you, so I thought Jay was completely AI! I was like wow, these deep fakes are good!

I agree, Doug. There is SO much great content related to AI these days, who can afford to pay for all worthy ones? Frustrating but sure appreciate the new/better approaches folks can offer, and this is one of the best!
