Thanks for this review, Jeremy. I tried shortform a while back but found the catalogue far too small to justify the cost at the time.
I already subscribe to Scribd, which has something they call “snapshots”. As good and concise as shortform, headway and blinkist but with the added benefit of access to the full book/audiobook in your subscription. And there’s optimize.me (now heroic) which goes a step further or ReadinGraphics (local to me here in Singapore) which inquest has an infographic of their summaries along with text and audio.
Uptime was news to me so just tried it it and there’s a lot of promise in their 5 minute format and a lovely app. 15minutes has been the standard for some time, to condense to 5 minutes in this modern attention-span limited world... now there’s a challenge.
John, thanks for your input on this! I expect we'll see more and more improvement in this space, given how much content is now being pumped out every day all over the world, and how hard it is to sift through and identify key insights from all the newsletters, podcasts, books, sites, shows, etc. out there.
